Restoring a Vintage Pie Safe

On Saturday, we were elbow deep working on projects for the Farm Chicks Show,  when we got a call from my Dad saying we may want to come take a look at something, before it was thrown away. He wasn't sure if it was something we would be interested in...If  not, this was headed for the demolition dumpster!

Are you kidding me...Of course we want it!!!!!!

We had to bring it up from the basement of an old demolished house, loaded it up and headed back to our other projects.
Sunday, we were able to pull it out of the truck and see what needed to be done to rescue this old hardworking gal. There was rot, mildew and rust to deal with. It would take some work to get this old girl to stand up on her own again.

Troy and I both thought there was enough there to try and salvage.
I love being married to a fix it man... He amazes me everyday with what he can do!

With a lot of elbow grease, rebuilding, grinding and oiling, and 4 hrs. later, we ended up with this...

Pure Vintage Beauty!

Sometimes, when you spend time working on a piece, you fall in love...We were absolutely smitten with this old  Pie Safe and unfortunately she will not be making the trip to Farm Chicks.

She has found her forever home here at the Cedar House!

Getting ready for Farm Chicks

Most of the time we love what we do....Today the weather made it really hard! Doesn't Mother nature know that we have loads of work to get done for Farm chicks...
Only 12 days left to get it all done!

Sweethearts

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I was very pleased to find a lovely box of  letter pressed  hearts at my local thrift store this week. I fell in love instantly!

Farm Chick Show 2013

Well, we survived another year at the Farm Chicks show....Just when you think it couldn't get any bigger or better....It did just that! In just one word....Amazing!!!!
We loaded the truck trailer and car and headed for Spokane looking like the Clampet's.

It's always blows me away how many vendors are at the show with their trailers in tow...Behind the scenes is always a spectacle.

It feels like there is never enough time to set for the show. We arrived around 11:30 and had until 6:00 to get the job done. With my handy helpers in tow....we went right to work! We had a little bit of a trek hauling our goods in...As they say early bird gets the best parking spot...I know that's not how the saying goes but that's how I think it should be :-)

(NOTE TO SELF....arrive earlier next year for better parking)

here is a shot of the left hand side of our double booth

and a corner shot

a peek through the walk way...

a shot of our neighbors booth...

a view of the isle before the show...

my handy helper, Jami.... caught in the act ;-)

and, just a taste of how many shoppers there are.

This may be a record of how many shoppers I squeezed into my booth at one time!
and of course I couldn't have done it at all, without the help of my hero..... and handy husband Troy and my great friend Jami.

A rusty re-purpose project

With Christmas almost here...Mr. Cedar House Soaps and I had time to sneak in one more re-purpose project before the big day.

This old Rusty piece of junk was a recently salvaged and was on it's way to the scrap yard. Formerly a front of an old stove, I couldn't help noticing that it would make a fantastic picture frame.  Can you see it too???

First we scrubbed it down with a wire brush,
washed it with soap and water and then oiled it.

Filled it with fun pictures of our family

used some old rusty wire for a hanger on the back
ready to be hung on the wall.

A super easy and fun project!

We are back from Junk Salvation

Wow what a time we had right before the show... Our youngest son broke his wrist 2 weeks ago and Dr's decided two days before the show that he needed surgery on it asap. Needless to say it has been pretty crazy around the Cedar House these past few days.

We managed to pull our act together and get set up for the show by the skin of our teeth (where did that saying come from anyway???)

The Junk Salvation Girls were more than darling and it was a pleasure to be a part of their show.

Upon entering the show you were greeted by adorable dolled up vintage trailers...(honey if you happen to read this....I have added one of these to my Christmas wish list)

and the show was chalked full of the most amazing vendors and their wares.

Cute as a button, Jennifer from Unexpected necessities and her Mom Kathy always have a Super cute booth. Check out this "hot momma"leg....too funny!

My booth was located next to the Sweet Frostings & Blissful Baking booth owned by Judy Rozier

who is opening a new store on the corner of 1st. and Washington in downtown Spokane.

Tough decisions...what to choose...Salted Carmel or Lemon Huckleberry??? Troy and I chose one of each and shared. Although both were delicious, I am in L-O-V-E with the salted Carmel.

O.K. How can you go wrong with a cupcake? Any cupcake is a good cupcake in my book and it's a good thing I do not live closer to Spokane ;-)

if you get the chance... STOP in at their new store and do some cupcake lovin' of your own!

In a booth across from me was a cousin that I have only met once before...It was a pleasure meeting SWEET Tiffany and her BEAUTIFUL Aunt Gail again.

Tiffany's business is the Pink House mine the Cedar House ...must be a family thing ;-)do you suppose?
